Breast Friends

A guest post by True&Co , your personal bra shop.

It’s inevitable; our bodies will change drastically during pregnancy and post-pregnancy. The body we’ve always known morphs into something we no longer recognize. Our breasts grow rapidly; our belly expands with this wonderful new life we are growing. And after the birth of our new favorite person on this planet, we continue to change. During breastfeeding we begin to lose the baby weight we acquired during pregnancy, but our breasts can either become larger or smaller and become strangers to us.

We are left learning to adapt to our rapidly changing bodies. Some of the changes are welcomed, but some come as a shock and can make us feel less confident than we were in our pre-pregnancy bodies (saggy breasts, anyone?). So the question is, with all of these changes, how do we avoid a confidence nose-dive with our post-pregnancy body?

One Brooklyn mommy Sarah* was faced this challenge head on after the birth of her first child. She explains: “14 months ago I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl. During my pregnancy, and then again afterwards, my body changed so much that it became barely recognizable. Within weeks of falling pregnant, none of my bras fit. Cue nine months of wearing poorly fitting bras, followed by the next 12 months of wearing even worse fitting nursing bras.” Faced with feeling unable to keep up with her constantly changing size, she finally found a solution when she stumbled across online lingerie retailer, True&Co.

She was overjoyed. “Every time I woke up and put on a nursing bra during those long 12 months, I promised myself that at the end of it I would splurge on beautiful bras… True&Co helped me out! I was able to shop online during the times my toddler was asleep… I now, finally, have bras that I love putting on every morning.”

True&Co has taken the “fit” out of “fitting room,” allowing for bra fitting and try-on in the privacy of your home, without ever having to step foot into a store. Think about it – as your body continues to change over time, your bra size can fluctuate as well. That’s why it’s important to get fitted regularly and clean our your older, ill-fitting bras and lingerie.

Check out True&Co to get fitted into the latest bra styles for your body shape. Wittlebee members get $10 off their first purchase, just use WITTLEBEE10 at checkout. Offer good until April 2nd, 2013.

Parent Tech 101

It’s inevitable that if you own an iPhone or iPad your kids are eventually going to get their hands on it. When they do you might want the reassurance they won’t go crazy with buying things while playing a game on your device. If you’ve read any of the stories about it happening to other parents, you’ll aready know it could end up costing you hundreds or in some cases thousands of dollars.

Here’s how it usually goes down. Your child wants to download a free game app, so you enter your password to itunes and either download the game or let your child do it. Soon your kid is happily playing away. Then after a few minutes of play the game will prompt them to buy someting or your child will get bored of the slim offerings of the free app and look for the area to purchase add ons. Boom, just like that your child click, click, clicks and you are automatically charged on your itunes account. They don’t need your password again to make the purchase unless you already have the phone set up to ask for it.

It would be so great if there was a way to control this right? Well it just so happens that there is and it’s simple. I am surprised by the number of people that still don’t know how to do it or haven’t taken the time to figure it out, so we’ve done it for you. Here’s how you can protect your igadget from little hands that want to buy everything they see. Continue reading

Valentine’s Day Card Crafting

charlotte valentine
I love doing crafts. I have a closet full of stuff I rarely use to prove it too. In my mind I do fantastic crafts with my child all the time. The reality is that it’s mostly around the holidays that I feel compelled to actually complete one. Which brings us to Valentine’s day.

Pinterest is chalk full of amazing ideas on just about everything so I headed over there to get some inspiration for our Valentines Day cards. Sadly mostly what I found was pre printed or so crafty that I would never be able to attempt it with a two year old. So I went to plan B. Search the house for anything you could make a card out of and let her go at it. Continue reading

Make Your Own Playdough

charlotte playdough
Playdough is easily one of my child’s favorite things to do. She loves to mash all the differernt colors together so they basically become one big ball and you can never seperate them again. It can get pricey to keep buying new playdough all the time which is why I like to make my own.

I have been using this particular recipe for years now and love that it does not stick to carpet or clothes like the store bought kinds do. Plus you can make it any color you want. I actually love the natural color it makes and always save some of it to play with as well. Continue reading

The Art of Layering

Layering my childrens clothing is essential during most of the year in Southern California. You’d think it’s all sunshine and perfect weather all day long but the reality is it can start out at 60 degrees, jump to 80 by afternoon, then back down to cool temps early evening. Unless you like changing your kids clothes mutiple times a day, which around here means fighting about what my daughter wants to wear and having my 7 month old try and kick me in the face while changing him, No thanks, I’d rather layer.

When the weather is not a factor, layering is a great way to extend your wardrobe. By mixing and matching and adding long sleeve shirts, legwarmers, pants under skirts, etc. you can create so many more outfits. You can even layer tank tops over long sleeve shirts during cold weather if your child is not jumping up in sizes too quickly. The possibilities are endless. Continue reading

Here are some activities you can do with your children to teach them about following their dreams and standing up for their own rights and others. Continue reading

Sensory Play With Salt

salt garden

I’m always on the hunt for fun activities to do with my daughter that also help her to grow in creative ways. Which is why I love sensory play so much. It helps children develop in so many ways. Cognitively, linguistically, emotionally, the list goes on and on, and all you have to do to engage in sensory play is find an activity that stimulates your child’s senses.

We’ve done sensory activities in the past, like using shaving cream and a table, but I wanted to try something a little less messy this time. I decided to make a sensory bin by using a plastic storage tub. You could also build a small table, buy one or even just clear off an area in your home. I wanted something that I could clean up easily and where I could store all of my sensory supplies so the tub was perfect.
